Lyft Donated $1 Million, Out of Selflessness or Competition?

Closely following Saturday’s #DeleteUber, Lyft as a company has decided to pledge $1 million over four years to the American Civil Liberty Union. This money is intended to help with Trump’s immigration ban, and co-founders John Zimmer and Logan Green announced their decision to donate money to help “defend our constitution.” Their stated motives are that “Banning people of a particular faith or creed, race or identity, sexuality or ethnicity, from entering the U.S. is antithetical to both Lyft’s and our nation’s core values.”

Lyft made sure that their actions were seen to help the community and to be “diverse, inclusive, and safe.” This statement is vastly different from Uber, which focused on and compensated its employees.

Is this brand marketing by Lyft, or was it really a utalitarian move? Let us know in the comments.
