10 Cardinal Rules for Life

Quotes are funny, many people take their advice no matter who coined it. The quote can come from an actor, businessman, teacher, politician, or whomever. As long as it is worded well and connects on some level, quotes seem like good tips. There are many in the world, given from parents to children, mentors to mentees, said as last words. Here is a list of some good ones that cover a wide variety of topics:

  1. Make peace with your past, so it won’t disturb your present. When your past calls, don’t answer; it has nothing new to say. The past is like a rear-view mirror: it’s good to look back to see how far you’ve come, but if you stare too long you’ll miss what’s in front of you.
  2. What other people think of you is none of your business. What they judge you for is based off their experiences, not what you have been through or will have to endure.
  3. No one is in charge of you. Except you. No one is going to teach you how to fix everything. No one is going to push you to reach your goals. You’re the only one you’re going to spend the rest of your life with.
  4. No one is the reason for your own happiness, except yourself. People come and go, but something you can invest and keep forever is your own mindset. Set it straight and it will serve you well.
  5. Time heals everything. Give it time. If you think about your childhood grievances, they don’t affect you now. The same applies to your life now, it can just be an overreaction.
  6. Don’t compare your life to others and don’t judge them. You have no idea what their journey is about. If comparing is how you evaluate your worth, you will always be losing.
  7. Stop thinking too much. It’s alright not to know the answers. Sometimes there is no answer, not going to be any answer, or never has been an answer.
  8. Try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have. Don’t live a life full of regrets, go out and do that which others would not dare to do.
  9. Help others. Helping others is a cure. Not just for those who are in need, but for you as well. Something that you may not have gotten in life you can provide, and make a difference.
  10. Smile. You don’t own all the problems in the world. Smiles are contagious, and can brighten the darkest day. It is a potential curve to turn a life around.
